چکیده

This paper describes the design, implementation, and a performance evaluation of a Distributed Shared Memory (DSM) system called Proteus which aims to support dynamic node reconfiguration. Proteus allows users to shorten the execution time of their DSM programs by dynamically adding nodes to the system. Furthermore, competition for resource between system users and computer owners can be avoided by dynamically deleting nodes from the system. To make the system efficiently adapting to node configuration, Proteus uses several techniques, which include the adaptive workload redistribution, the affinity page movement, and the forced update. The consistency models supported by Proteus are both sequential consistency and release consistency. The programming environment provided is similar to PRESTO. In this paper, we focus the description on the design and implementation of node reconfiguration in Proteus. In addition, a performance evaluation is also presented in this paper. The results showed that the performance of the programs can be improved by taking advantage of node reconfiguration. Furthermore, our techniques work well in communication minimization and overhead minimization.

PROTEUS: An approach to interface evaluation

PROTEUS is a number of software tools which allow the implementation of an iterative, user centred approach to software (particularly interface) design, using rapid prototyping. The tools allow automated collection of questionnaire data, logging of system usage, and the central technique which is the collection of a qualitative representation of users perception of an interface design space, us...

Proteus: A System for Dynamically Composing and Intelligently Executing Web Services

Many organizations envision web services as an enabling component of Internet-scale computing. A final vision of web services is to realize a dynamic environment that identifies, composes and executes web services in response to a query. This vision shapes the design and implementation of Proteus. In addition to describing Proteus’ novel components, this paper outlines its initial system design.

Proteus: an Ecient Runtime Recon®gurable Distributed Shared Memory System

This paper describes Proteus, a distributed shared memory (DSM) system which supports runtime node recon®guration. Proteus allows users to change the node set during the execution of a DSM program. The capability of node addition allows users to further shorten the execution time of their DSM programs by dynamically adding newly available nodes to the system. Furthermore, competition for resour...

Laboratory Evaluation of the Toxicity of Proteus, Pymetrozine, Deltamethrin, and Pirimicarb on Lady Beetle Hippodamia Variegata (goeze) (col.: Coccinellidae)

The implementation of an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program requires selecting and using chemicals which are least harmful to natural enemies. In this study, the acute toxicity of the recommended field concentration of four conventional insecticides was evaluated in reference to the different life stages (L3, L4 and adult) of the variegated lady beetle Hippodamia variegata (Goeze) (Coleop...

Ontology-based Design of Bioinformatics Workflows on PROTEUS

Bioinformatics is as a bridge between life science and computer science: computer algorithms are needed to face complexity of biological processes. Bioinformatics applications manage complex biological data accessing distributed heterogeneous databases, and require large computing power. After introducing bioinformatics requirements, we present the architecture of PROTEUS, a Grid-based Problem ...
